If you are doing business overseas and are required to submit documentation to a foreign agency, you might need to authenticate or legalize the documents before you submit them.

Authentications are in the form of either an apostille or a gold seal certificate for use overseas.

If the issuing country to which a document pertains is part of The Hague Convention of 1961, the document receives an apostille, which is a form of official recognition for documents that certifies the authenticity of the signature and the capacity in which the person signing the document is serving as well as identifies the seal/stamp, which the document bears.

If, however, you are dealing with a document that is from a country that is not part of The Hague Convention of 1961, then this document receives a gold seal certification.
